This is a image of a medieval marriage contract. In the marriage contract, the picture on it shows a scene of two people being wed. Marriage was a very important part of medieval time. One of the main reasons that people married was to gain land. If the land was under protection from a lord or king, the person who married became under the protection if they were from another kingdom. The more land that you own, you could give some of it away and become a lord, this meant that you became higher on the political scale and social scale too. Being a lord had its advantages because you were in charge of the land. Also you gained more respect for being a lord. Overall marriage was a crucial part of medieval time.
